"How could is the enemy of fact"

I'm making a collage of that to put on my wall, to remind me to try harder as a journalist (er, or journalism student).

A lot of people see 'light', everyday reading materials like newspapers and mags as a place to absorb information without having to think. Journos assume that they too can get by without burning up too much grey matter, since the audience doesn't really want to spend time picking apart each piece. Not true! When 90% percent of your audience has their brains set to off, yours has to be going at warp speed to compensate.  No wonder people are so cynical about media.

Love the CJR because of this.
